Rotary Module

  • Rotary Module is used to mark on cylindrical parts. It can mark up to 360 degrees wrap-around. It can also be used to rotate a part to any degree or a fraction of a degree.
  • It is very accurate and highly repeatable.
  • It may be integrated to mark on the fly and for accurate rotary marking.
  • Rotary module may be mounted on a linear slide to engage and dis-engage the module, thereby using laser for multiple applications.

Rotary Index Table

  • Rotary Index Table is used for higher thru-put as it allows the operator to load and unload part at one station while the laser machine is marking at the other station.
  • Rotary Index Tables are available in 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16 or 24 stations.
  • The advantage of Rotary Index Table is to perform multiple operations simultaneously.
  • Additional stations may be used for any of the following:
  • Auto load/un-load; Inspection station & other processes.

  • Vision System may be used to view quality of laser marking and also for accurate alignment and positioning purposes.
  • Can be used for machine inspection and enable the machine to make necessary decisions for part quality.
  • To magnify small text, logo, artwork and 2D matrix for human readability.
  • The camera can also read very small text, logo, artwork, 2D matrix, etc.

Enables the operator to view the lasing process live/on-demand.

  • The Automatic part loading and unloading features are available to speed up the process and also when the operator is not available to perform these functions.
  • May be combined with parts feeder either via feeder bowl or magazine depending upon part configuration.

Ideal for continuous operation process and fully automatic systems.


X – Y Stage

  • The X-Y table is used for handling and processing parts with Fixed Beam or with Scan Head for large parts.
  • Comes in different sizes from as small as 2” x 2” (50 x 50mm) to 48” x 48”. However most common sizes are between 6” x 10” to 18” x 24”. The accuracy and repeatability depend upon application and can range from +/-0.03” to +/-0.0005” (0.75 to 0.0127mm).
  • Speed varies from as low as 0.5 to 500 inches/min.
  • Load capacity ranges from under 1 lbs to over 500 lbs (0.45 to 227kg).

Can be driven by stepper, servo motors or linear motors.

  • Z-axis is used to set focal length of laser lens on the part being marked.
  • Comes with 3 different options; Manual, Power and Programmable.
    • Manual Z-axis enables the operator to adjust the laser height depending upon part height to maintain the focal length.
    • Power Z-axis enables the operator to adjust laser height via a toggle switch.

Programmable Z-axis offers the feature of adjusting the laser height (Z-axis) based on part # or other info saved in the system. Hence the data is saved in the machine memory and can be recalled by entering part # or ID info.

  • Aperture helps control the beam diameter and beam profile. 
  • May be fixed, manually adjustable, or programmable.
    • Fixed apertures have a given opening for the laser beam to pass through. 
    • Adjustable aperture may be changed manually to achieve a desired laser beam. 

Programmable aperture enables you to adjust the aperture via laser program thereby adjusting beam diameter for different applications. This feature is highly desirable when variable beam diameter is required either for scribing, cutting, or micro-machining application.


Positioning System

  • Positioning System is a critical component of part handler and it comes in many Configurations; from 1-axis to 6-axes. 
  • Pick & Place is also a part of positioning system. Speed and pay-load depends upon application.
  • Drive may be pneumatic, stepper, servo or linear motor. 
  • Stroke varies from under few inches to over 60 inches. 

Accuracy and repeatability varies based on application and customer requirements.

Laser beam may be delivered in one of the following ways:

  1. Fixed
  2. Scan head with 2 axes (X-Y) positioning
  3. Scan head with 3-axes (X-Y-Z) positioning
    Fixed beam is used when part is moved via an external device, e.g. conveyor or X-Y table or robot.
    Scan heads with both 2 & 3 axes are used when part is stationary and laser beam is steered with scan head.

Conveyor of any type, size and speed may be integrated to a laser machine. The laser can mark while the part is in motion or stationary.

For high speed coding on bottles, etc., lasers are very cost effective and by virtue maintenance free.

For in-line marking and coding, any laser type may be used. The laser marking speed is synchronized via an encoder mounted on the conveyor and interfaced with the laser control.
